Different people have contrasting views on whether the pupils should be streamed in the school. As far as I am concerned, mixed-ability classes can be a more reasonable educational approach despite some benefits in a streaming way.

雅思大作文7分范文:学校根据学术能力挑学生

Proponents of dividing children with academic performance often argue that selection takes individual differences into a thorough consideration and thus schools can provide specific objectives to meet pupils’ personal needs. After all, each child has his or her distinctiveness in terms of learning preferences, personalities, interests, and so forth. Through selecting and separating the youth into different classes based on their talents and intelligence, for instance, schools are able to not only tailor a result-oriented syllabus to explore each student’s maximum potentials but also minimise the possible peer pressure that some slow learners suffer from the negative psychological impacts considering the poor performance they have in exams or assignments.

On the other hand, those who are in favour of mixed-ability classes attach great importance to the contribution of healthy competitions. In spite of the possible imbalance between each student’s academic performance in a class, superior peers could serve as a desirable role model to others. Their strengths, such as learning attitudes and methods, could enlighten the rest of the class to improve and endeavour in study. Besides, the diversity in class can promote the mutual study among children with different abilities and create a better environment for children’s all-around development.

In my opinion, although the teaching resources could be assigned more efficiently to target youngsters’ gifts in the streaming, it is still too early and unfair at this stage. Influenced by the misconception of classifying with abilities, children might be misled to overestimate their talents or underestimate their potentials. A dynamic and harmonious class, in contrast, shares more similarities with the real society and presents them chances to learn how to appreciate others’ fortes and embrace others’ weaknesses.
